Colombia and the Netherlands will host the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels. The Conference is designed as a space for countries, subnational governments and other stakeholders that recognize the need to implement a transition away from fossil fuels in a just, orderly and equitable manner, in line with climate goals and the best available science.
FIRST CONFERENCE ON TRANSITIONING AWAY FROM FOSSIL FUELS BEGINS IN
Our Conference is guided by the following principles:

Participation by those ready to move forward, recognizing this as a space focused on action rather than persuasion.

Implementation as our guiding star, based on the shared scientific certainty that accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels is essential to achieving climate goals, upholding human rights, and addressing the triple planetary crisis. Focus on action rather than further diagnosis.

Focus on solutions that meaningfully support the transition rather than delay it

· Fiscal dependence and public debt
· Energy security
· Productive reconversion without creating new forms of extractivism
· Shared responsibilities and joint efforts

Transforming supply and demand
· Demand: fuel switching, phase-out of key demand drivers, and energy access
· Supply: exploration and extraction licensing, and planning for managed closures.
· Incentives: from fossil fuel subsidies to clean energy investment

Advancing international cooperation and multilateralism
· Closing gaps in implementation, governance, and cooperation
· Addressing international legal barriers, particularly those arising from investor–State dispute settlement (ISDS)
